Overview
When we open our Bibles, we are confronted with a world different from the one in which we live. The Hebrew customs, their daily activities and patterns of speech often puzzle or surprise us. Frequently we miss the significance of what is being said because we lack a basic knowledge about life in Bible times. To read the Bible is truly to be exposed to another culture.
In order to understand and to appreciate the message of the Bible, we need to have a “tour guide” to the world of the Bible. This seminar is specifically designed to meet that need.
Presenter
Glenn E. Schaefer, PhD, has a doctorate in Old Testament studies from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY. His graduate program included archaeology, which took him to Israel, where he worked at Ai. He began his career at Simpson University in 1974 and has served in various capacities including Professor of Old Testament and Chairman of the Division of Theology and Ministry. Currently, he serves as the coordinator of Simpson University for Seniors. In 1981, he began accompanying college students to the Middle East. The motto for the month in Israel was “I ran today where Jesus walked.” In 2009, Glenn switched from study tours for students to non-credit pilgrimages for adults who wished to tour the Holy Land with their Bibles in hand. In May 2011, he took 30 “pilgrims” to Israel on a 16-day trip.
